Part 12: Look for Miracles

My father went into the hospital one day, because he had trouble breathing. He got better, and after a few days, he was well enough to go home. Just as he was being discharged, at home, my mother fell down and shattered her shoulder. They actually exchanged a kiss in the ER—one going out and the other coming in.

My mother’s shoulder was broken in four pieces. Despite the severity of the break, no surgeon at that hospital wanted to touch her. With her many pre-existing illnesses, there was a 70% chance she would die on the operating table. She would have to live with a broken shoulder on her dominant arm.

Anyone would expect that living with a broken bone would mean nonstop pain. But although the incident was devastating news, this was an opportunity for God to show us who He was and what He was capable of. Since the moment she fell, mom has not complained once of pain. Not once. Her right arm is still in four pieces, and separated from the socket. And yet, there This is nothing short of a miracle. God spared mom the suffering that would accompany an injury of that sort. And although her movement in that arm is somewhat limited, she has not suffered any pain. This was a prayer answered in the most astounding way.

God is powerful and compassionate, and He is gracious to those who love and obey Him. I sometimes marvel at the fact that God, who is so vast and majestic, could be so interested in my insignificant little family. But our Heavenly Father delights in us. He delights in you too, and He cares very deeply what happens to you. Ask Him for a miracle, and trust Him to provide it.

And then let Him amaze you.

“Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.”

‭(‭Psalm‬ ‭34:8‬)‬‬

“He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.” (Matthew‬ ‭8:26‬)

“Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”” (‭‭Matthew‬ ‭17:19-20‬)‬

“He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”” (Psalm‬ ‭46:10‬)
